William J. Connell Professor of History Address: Walsh Library, Room 323 Phone: (973) 275-2928 E-mail: connelwi@shu.edu My principal work has been in the Italian Renaissance, late medieval history, and early modern intellectual history. Working in the “middle centuries” of Western history means that I often float back to antiquity or forward to contemporary problems, but my chief interests lie in the ideas and movements that laid the groundwork of the modern experience. In my dual role as holder of the La Motta Chair and Director of the Alberto Institute I am committed to building bridges between Italian and American academics and between Italian Americans and the academic community.
