Graduate Program Overview

The Department of Jewish-Christian Studies at Seton Hall University offers a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in Jewish-Christian Studies as well as a Certificate in Jewish-Christian Studies. The curriculum covers all aspects of the historical relationships between Jews and Christians and their respective values and traditions. Students have the opportunity to examine the religious, ethical and social issues at the core for understanding Christians and Jews today with the background of anti-Semitism and the Holocaust.

The program offered at Seton Hall proudly serves as a model for eliminating prejudice through understanding. Courses are offered to accommodate both full-time and part-time students.

The Department of Jewish-Christian Studies offers the following:

1. The M.A. in Jewish-Christian Studies, Thesis Option (36 credits)

In addition to required courses and research, this program includes three courses in the reading of Hebrew texts. The thesis represents a contribution to research in Jewish-Christian Studies.

2. The M.A. in Jewish-Christian Studies, Non-Thesis Option (36 credits).

A basic knowledge of Biblical Hebrew is required prior to the student’s completion of the required coursework.

3. The Certificate in Jewish-Christian Studies (12 credits).

Students complete the Christian Jewish Encounter course in addition to three other courses in consultation with the chairperson of the Department of Jewish-Christian Studies.
