 The Department of Africana Studies continues its Writer/Speaker Series by hosting its first speaker for 2008-2009, Professor and author Karen King-Aribisala. The event will take place on November 24, 2008 at 4:00-6:00 p.m. in the Beck Rooms of the Walsh Library
 
Karen King-Aribisala, PhD., lives and works in Nigeria where she is a lecturer in the Department of English at the University of Lagos. She has published a number of academic articles in various journals and is also a writer of fiction. Her first book, Our Wife and other Stories won the Best First Book Award (African Region) in the Commonwealth Writers Prize. Her stories and poems have been published in several journals such as Wasafiri, Presence Africaine, and The Griot. She is the recipient of a number of grants and awards, including from the Ford Foundation, the Commonwealth Foundation, the Carmagao Foundation, the University of Miami, West African Research Award, and Fellowships and Grants from the British Council. In 2008, she won the Best Book Prize (African Region) for the Commonwealth Literature Prize for her novel The Hangman's Game.
