The Alberto Italian Studies Institute announces for its Italian Film Series the screening of Golden Door on April 9, 2008 at 6:30 p.m. in the Faculty Lounge, 2nd Floor of the University Center.
Directed by Emanuele Crialese, one of the most acclaimed contemporary Italian directors, Golden Door (2007) narrates the story of Salvatore Mancuso, a Sicilian man, who, after the death of his wife, decides to sell everything and immigrate to the United States with his two sons and his mother. On his difficult journey towards Ellis Island he meets a British woman, who mysteriously inserts herself in his life. Acclaimed by both critics and the general public, Golden door received several international awards.
A beautiful and imaginative film on Italian immigration, Golden Door will be introduced by Dr. Anthony J. Tamburri, Dean of the John D. Calandra Italian American Institute of New York. A question and answer session will follow the film screening.
