Jo Renee Formicola, Ph.D., Professor of Political Science at Seton Hall University, has been chosen as the 2008 Ignatian Scholar by the Le Moyne College Alumni Association Board. She has been given this award for demonstrating "outstanding accomplishment" in her field of endeavor. She will be honored at the Ignatian Awards Mass and Brunch at the College on June 1, 2008
Formicola is the author/co-author and editor of eight books on religion and politics, as well as numerous articles on Catholic politics. She has been President of the New Jersey Political Science Association and the North East Political Science Association. On the national level, she has been on the board and program chair of the Religion and Politics Section of the American Political Science Association. She has served as department chair and acting dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Seton Hall University, and an elected Councilwoman in Madison, New Jersey.
The Ignatian Scholar award is given annually during Reunion Weekend for significant contributions to one’s field. It is given for advancing scholarship in a particular discipline or in providing social service to the community.
