Chris Dutra '08 Lectures at Princeton MASPLAS Workshop
Seton Hall > News & Events

On April 26, 2008 a Computer Science senior, Christopher J. Dutra, presented his research article entitled “Closureless Functional Languages via Dynamically Created Functions” at the 2008 Mid-Atlantic Student Workshop on Programming Languages and Systems (MASPLAS) held at Princeton University. The article he presented describes work done with his advisor Marco T. Morazán, Ph.D., associate professor of Mathematics and Computer Science, on a new representation for functions in computer programming languages that can significantly save memory allocation. Empirical work suggests that for a certain class of computer programs up to 33% of memory allocations are saved. The work promises to revolutionize the implementation of programming languages.

An abstract of their joint article describing their work is available at the MASPLAS 2008 homepage. This work was, in part, supported by the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science and by Teaching Learning and Technology Center (TLTC) through the SURF (Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship) program.
