First N.J. K-12 Chinese-Language Teacher Seminar on May 16 Seton Hall > News & Events Friday, May 16, 2008 by: Evelyn Huang Are you a Chinese Language teacher looking to improve your instructional methods and share your expertise with other educational professionals? Would you like to become a Chinese language teacher?
In response to a growing interest in becoming a qualified Chinese language teacher for the K-12 setting and an urgent need to standardize the teaching of the Chinese language, Seton Hall University’s Department of Asian Studies, located in the College of Arts and Sciences, and the College of Education and Human Services present the first New Jersey K-12 Chinese-Language Teacher Seminar on May 16, 2008. The seminar will be held at the Chancellor Suite in the Bishop Dougherty University Center from 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM.
- Cheri Quinlan, the coordinator of World Languages and International Education, will give updates from the New Jersey Department of Education.
- Mali Ou, Chinese Language Teacher from Watchung Hills Regional High School, will share her lesson planning techniques in “Applying Backward Design to Teaching Chinese at High School.”
- Shu-Fen Lin, Chinese Language Teacher from Princeton High School, will discuss student performance in “Let Them Talk – Assessing Interpersonal and Presentational Communication.”
- Ted Mc Gurrin, Chinese Language Teacher from Vernon Township High School, will talk about his experience in creating a Chinese Language curriculum in “Implementing a Successful K-12 Chinese Language Program.”
- Eileen Quirk, ESL teacher from West Orange High School, will discuss ways to run a classroom in “Class Management and Beyond.”
- Lucy Lee, President of the Chinese Language Association of Secondary-Elementary Schools and [insert her title at L.H.S.] from Livingston High School, will lead the round table discussion on “Professional Standards for the K-12 Chinese Language Teachers.”
