Lauren Schiller, M.F.A., associate professor in the Department of Art and Music, received the prestigious 2008 Artists' Fellowship Award by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.

Highly competitive awards, New Jersey artist fellowships are awarded in 14 various arts disciplines. The awards are based on an independent peer panel assessment of the artistic quality taken from work samples submitted anonymously. The awards may be used to support the professional development of the artist. Partnered with the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation, the New Jersey State Council on the Arts selected thirty New Jersey artists from an applicant pool of 350 artists. Lauren Schiller was one of three finalists who received perfect scores from the panel and will receive top cash awards. During April- June 2009, there will be an exhibition for the 2007-2008 fellowship artists at the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey in Summit

In addition to receiving this coveted award, Schiller’s paintings have been included in the "Talent 2007" exhibition at the Allan Stone Gallery, located at E. 90th Street in New York. Her works were recently published in the April 2008 Mid Atlantic edition of New American Paintings. Each regionally focused edition features the works of forty painters.

Schiller received her M.F.A. degree from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. She currently teaches painting and printmaking and serves as co-organizer for the Sight and Sound student art exhibition and recital which takes place annually in April.
