Dr. Amadu Jacky Kaba

Dr. Amadu Jacky Kaba, assistant professor in the Department of Public and Healthcare Administration, was presented the John D. “Honey” Russell Award on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 by the Seton Hall Athletic Department and the University’s Pirate Blue Athletic Fund, during the Men’s basketball annual dinner. The award is presented annually to a former Pirate basketball player or coach who represents the values of Seton Hall University. Dr. Kaba, who played from 1994 to 1998, is the 30th individual to receive this award.

The late John D. “Honey” Russell was a former basketball coach at Seton Hall University from 1936 to 1941 and also from 1949 to 1960. He led the Pirates in winning the 1952-53 National Invitational Tournament Championship against St. John’s University, which at that time was recognized as the National Champion.

Dr. Kaba is a past recipient of the NCAA’s "Most Courageous" National Award. The award was presented to him in 1998 by the United States Basketball Writers Association.
